Meanwhile, the average net wage for full‑time workers in December stood at HUF 548,900, meaning the average pension now equals only 47.5% of average earnings, down from 52.8% a year earlier.

Official statistics also show that more than 700,000 retirees receive pensions of between HUF 200,000 and 300,000, making this the largest group.

At the upper end, around 14,000 people receive more than HUF 700,000, and a total of 77,394 pensioners collect over HUF 500,000 per month.

The widening gap underscores growing concerns about long‑term pension adequacy as wages continue to rise faster than benefits.
