Hungary’s oil giant MOL Nyrt, the majority owner of Slovnaft – MOL owns 98.4% of the refiner -, accumulated a reserve of Ft 2.2 billion to pay the fine in February 2006. Slovnaft had set different prices for various distributors without providing any information about the conditions that formed the base of the company’s price-setting policy. The wholesale price of gasoline, e.g., was higher for Shell Slovakia s.r.o. than for OMV Slovensko s.r.o., while it was Shell that bought more gasoline from Slovnaft. According to wire agency MTI, Slovnaft appealed the decision in court. Slovnaft, based in Bratislava, has an almost 40% share of Slovakia’s fuel market. (NG 15, Gazdasági Rádió)
