Budapest prosecutorial spokesman Attila Morvai said all were being investigated for abuses committed in the course of duty and some were also suspected of aggravated assault and battery. All were involved in quelling violent demonstrations on September 18-19 and October 23 last year. They are believed to have applied excess force, abused their power, and violated personal liberties.
Police and demonstrators clashed overnight on September 18-19, when rioters ransacked and looted public television headquarters, and on October 23, when crowds of peaceful protesters and violent rioters merged, and police responded with a one-size-fits-all counterattack.
