A strategy which aims to boost the amount of energy from renewable resources in Hungary from 5.2% of the total to 8.2% by 2010 will soon come before parliament, Hatvani said. Most of the increase is expected to come from biofuels, including wood biomass. Within the next decade, the use of renewable energy resources could increase 60%, rising by the same amount as global energy consumption, which would mean renewable energy’s proportion of total energy use would remain unchanged around 14%. Of this amount, 10 percentage points come from hydroelectric power, wood biomass and other biomass.
