The sub-index that gauges consumer expectations fell 20 points to 170.8 from Q4 to Q1.
The sub-index that measures propensity to make purchases reached 106.7 points, down 14 points from the previous month. The index is at the level of March 2009 at the depth of the economic crisis. Director of GfK Hungária Ákos Kozák attributed the low index to the high price of fuel and food.
The percentage of households that expect the unemployment rate to increase rose to 44% in Q1.
About one-third of households think it is not a good time to borrow and 60% would never apply for a loan.
The percentage of households that expect interest rates to rise in the coming twelve months was almost 50%.
