Housing loans for new properties reached HUF 16.28 billion in March, the highest level in nearly three years. The last time banks disbursed such a large amount was in June 2022.

Gergely also noted that figures from spring 2022 should be treated with caution, as the market was heavily influenced by a subsidized loan from the National Bank of Hungary offering a maximum interest rate of 2.5%.

On a purely market basis, new home financing volumes were only higher in fall 2021 than in March of this year.
