Hungary’s corporate and municipal green‑loan portfolio exceeded HUF 1.1 trillion by the end of Q1 2026, rising from HUF 994.9 billion to HUF 1.105 tln, an 11% quarterly increase and nearly 48% growth year‑on‑year. Green lending now makes up almost 8% of all corporate and municipal loans, far outpacing the overall market, which grew only 0.3% in the same period.

Real‑estate financing drove most of the quarterly expansion with more than HUF 80 bln added, while energy‑storage projects surged by nearly HUF 22 bln, reaching almost HUF 23 bln, one of the fastest‑growing segments in the market. Renewable‑energy developments remain the largest category, but the loan portfolio is becoming more diverse as companies invest in system flexibility and long‑term sustainability.

Household green mortgages also continued to grow, reaching HUF 417.5 bln, up 19% year‑on‑year, despite a 2% quarterly decline linked to shifting housing‑market conditions.
