Veres dismissed speculation that budget revenue had fallen behind schedule. The government will not further raise value-added taxes or bring the introduction of a property tax forward from 2008, he said.
The 2007 budget will be based on Hungary’s convergence program and its details will be published after the program is approved in Brussels, Veres said. The European Commission is expected to pronounce its verdict on the program by the end of September. Veres said he was confident the Commission would approve the plan but a contingency plan was ready if changes were needed.
