The First National Utilities Company (ENKSZ), which is using Főgáz as its bridgehead onto the gas market, said that although overdue bills would not be taken over, Főgáz would not restore service to clients whose gas has been shut off until they settle the balance with their previous providers, the daily reported.
Hungarian news agency MTI noted that Főgáz recently won the right to take over the retail customers of the local gas units of Germanyʼs E.ON and Franceʼs GDF Suez, after they turned in their licenses. Főgáz reportedly said it is also ready to take over some 1.2 million clients of regional gas distributor Tigáz, which recently requested the withdrawal of its “universal service provider” license to supply gas to households.
According to Népszabadság, approximately 70,000 of Magyar Telekomʼs gas clients would also be taken over by Főgáz as of August.
