Szijjártó noted that deliveries of Russian crude to Hungary and Slovakia through the Druzhba pipeline that runs through Ukraine were exempt from European Union sanctions. He said the news of Ukraine's measure regarding the transit deliveries of Lukoil had come "as a shock" and called the step "incomprehensible, unacceptable and unfriendly", especially when demand at the pump was high during the summer holidays. He noted that Hungary and Slovakia got about 2 million tonnes of crude through the Druzhba each year.
Hungary is in contact with Slovakia's government regarding the matter and will bring the issue up at a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday, he said.
Although temporary solutions ensure Hungary's crude supply is secure, a solution for the problem in the mid-term needs to be found quickly, he added.
