The price of gasoline in Hungary averaged 615/liter during the week, HUF 11 under the average in neighboring countries. Diesel stood at HUF 626/liter, HUF 4 lower than the average.
Commenting on the data, the Ministry of National Economy said the government's "firmly stated expectation" that Hungarian households shouldn't pay more at the pump than in neighboring countries had been met.
The ministry added that the government was weighing fuel companies' proposal to gauge price comparisons with neighboring countries on a monthly, rather than a weekly, basis because of national particularities, while also observing the methodology KSH is developing for calculating the differences.
