Lázár said that more than 386,000 “illegal immigrants” have arrived in Hungary since the beginning of the year, and these numbers could exceed 700,000 by the end of the year.
The Cabinet Chief added that the Hungarian government could decide on how to proceed with the border closure in the coming days, however, the decision will likely be affected by the “outcome of the EU summit” being held in Brussels today.
According to earlier reports, the “temporary wire fence” on the Serbian border was being extended along the Croatian border as well. Since Hungary closed the Serbian border, refugees have been arriving to the country through Croatia, bypassing the fence.
In response to origo.huʼs query, Lázár said that the Croatian border could be closed before November 8, the day on which Croatiaʼs general election takes place.
