Hungary Agricultural Output Value Grows by 6.5%

The total value of output of agriculture exceeded HUF 4.3 trillion in 2023, which was 6.5% more than a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reports.

The volume of output of crop production increased by 44% compared to 2022 according to the first, preliminary data by KSH.

The quantity of cereals grew by 64% in total, within which the quantity of maize by 121%, that of rye by 63%, the quantity of oats by 62%, that of barley by 42%, and the quantity of wheat by 36%. The production of rape became 16% and that of sunflower 56% larger.

The production of protein crops, sugar beet, and tobacco went up as well, so the quantity of industrial crops increased by 44% in total. The volume of forage plants increased by 24%, that of horticultural products by 14% and the volume of potatoes by 9.6%.

The volume of fruits lessened by 0.3%, within which the production of apples grew by 39% and that of apricot, peach, and nectarine decreased by 40%. The volume of other crop products and grapes remained unchanged. The total volume of output of livestock production lessened by 0.5%.

The production of live animals went up by 0.6% and that of animal products decreased by 2.7%.

The value of the output of the agricultural sector (including services and secondary activities) expanded by 6.5% at current basic prices, and its volume of production – along with a 15% decrease in prices – by 25%, KSH notes.

The volume of intermediate consumption diminished by 1.5% and its prices rose by a total 1.7%. Out of inputs, the volume of fertilizers was cut by 10%, that of plant protection products by 8% and the volume of animal feed by 1%, and the rest of the inputs slightly grew or remained unchanged according to the first estimates.

Gross value added was up by 19% and its volume by 79%. Labor input in agriculture was reduced by 4.1%. Factor income grew by 16% and entrepreneurial income by 13%.

Real factor income per work unit became 5.5% higher compared to the previous year, the statistics office notes.
