Hungary's Continental Dohányipari Group has bought 1,315 tonnes of Virginia tobacco this year, 49% more than in 2022, the company told state news wire MTI.

Continental Dohányipari curing unit Dofer paid farmers HUF 1,509/kg on average, 40% more than after the last season.

Dofer will finish its purchases of Burley tobacco, which is grown on a much smaller area in Hungary than Virginia tobacco, in January.

Dofer contracts and buys about one-third of the tobacco grown in Hungary.

Continental Dohányipari, an independent family-owned company that has units in Italy, Germany, Romania, and Slovakia, had net sales revenue of HUF 63.7 billion last year, public records show.
