According to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal, the service provider has already had spectrum in these bands, meaning that the frequencies expiring in April 2022 were renewed at the auction, and the company acquired rights to use them for the next 15 years up until 2037. Vodafone Hungary will use the re-acquired frequencies to increase the capacity needed for faster mobile internet and better voice quality.

Vodafone Hungary has acquired a total of 58 MHz from the NMHH at the auction on January 28:
900 MHz – For HUF 22.7 bln 2×9 Mhz – provides the mobile network for services currently running on 2G and on 3G. The re-acquired frequency bands will be used by Vodafone in the future to expand the 4G / 5G network.
1800 MHz – For HUF 26.4 bln 2×20 Mhz – The acquired frequencies will be used by Vodafone Hungary in its entirety to expand LTE capacity in the next years to come.

The spectrum acquired has a 15-year duration until 2037, with the option of a further five-year extension to 2042.

Vodafone Hungary's CEO, Amanda Nelson said, "Last year has highlighted the fundamental role of the telecommunication sector, as it helped us to stay in touch with our loved ones, to learn and to work. It is crucial for us to ensure that this is done smoothly in the future too for our customers, and to do so, we must constantly develop our networks and services. With the frequencies re-acquired we can ensure the continuity of our services and with capacity extensions we can provide even faster mobile internet and better voice quality."
