Hungary’s National Deposit Insurance Fund (OBA) insured deposits of just over HUF 12.2 trillion at the end of 2010, up 0.2% from the end of 2009, OBA calculated based on an evaluation of fees due in June.
OBA said 99.6% of the deposits it insures are under the €100,000 maximum insured value. That is, 9,835,004 bank accounts in Hungary have less than the equivalent of €100,000 in them. The average amount of deposits per account works out to HUF 1.2 million, OBA said. Just 39,217 accounts have more than the equivalent of €100,000 in them, but these add up to HUF 4.8 billion.
