The increase will bring prices at the pump to about HUF 366 per liter for petrol and HUF 362 per liter for diesel. MOL last changed its fuel prices a week earlier, raising the price of diesel by HUF 3 per liter but leaving the price of petrol unchanged.
This year, the price of petrol and diesel has risen by a total HUF 4 and HUF 11, as a result of price increase and decrease.
HUF 366 per liter is the highest price for petrol since this January. A year earlier average price was HUF 324 per liter.
The current average diesel price, 362 HUF per liter, is the highest ever recorded. Diesel price per liter was HUF 300 in Feb, 2010.
Price differences of up to HUF 30 can occur between fuel stations.
The price hike is caused by unprecedented growh in global demand for crude oil, analysts highlight. According to London experts, the rise in demand equals to the aggregate daily output of Iraq and Kuwait. OPEC countries have sufficient stocks, however, until the situation in the Middle East stabilizes, prices aren’t likely to decline.
