Magyar Telekom, Hungary’s incumbent telco, switched off the country’s last
crossbar exchange in Miskolc on December 19, completing the conversion to a digital network, the company announced on Monday. Hungary’s telephone network had been operating using crossbar exchanges for more than 30 years. Magyar Telekom began replacing the exchanges in September 2004, spending Ft 4 bln to digitalise the entire network with the replacement of 130 exchanges serving 158,000 subscribers.
