The Coordination Center for Transport Development transport will present the plans for the long term development of domestic expressway and road network until 2027 to the government in few weeks time. According to the plans, prepared for the request of the National Development Ministry, there will be less highway construction projects than in the earlier years, mostly the earlier launched projects will be finished and handed over. There will be only 334.7 km of new road constructed until 2027. Instead the government will focus more on waterborne and rail transport development, and will only launch lower budget highway projects. The plans are currently under public debate.
The budget earmarked for expressway and road network development projects will be HUF 180 billion from 2014-2020, and HUF 230 billion from 2021-2027. From this only HUF 861 billion will be designated altogether the construction of new roads. According to the plans the source of the budget of the developments will come from the European Union, Világgazdaság learned. The costs of the developments currently in progress is HUF 85 billion and two thirds of the amount is financed by the European Union, and 330 km of roads will be handed over.
