The study, conducted by German Tech Magazine GamingGadgets, analyzed the number of Google searches for tech products on sale in the last quarter of 2023, to reveal which items had the greatest number of searches on average in the build-up to Christmas.
In first place, Nintendo Switch received roughly 133 searches each month on average between October and December 2023. This year saw the release of some of the most anticipated franchised Switch releases including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. It is no surprise that the current iteration of the Switch, which was first released in 2017, remains so popular.
Just behind, the Steam Deck received 99 searches each month on average. The handheld gaming device was released in September 2022 by American gaming corporation Valve and has since gained some popularity due to the portability of the console combined with the power and versatility of a gaming PC.
Completing the podium, the Playstation 5, which comes in with 73 searches a month, is powered by an AMD Zen 2-based CPU and a custom RDNA 2-based GPU. The PS5 boasts impressive graphical capabilities and supports ray tracing for realistic visuals. The PS5 also offers backward compatibility with most PlayStation 4 games, allowing players to enjoy their existing collection of games with improved performance and graphics.
In fourth place, the Kindle received 69 searches each month throughout the last quarter of 2023. Amazon's flagship e-reader features an E Ink display that mimics the look of ink on paper, ensuring a comfortable reading experience even in bright sunlight. With access to millions of e-books through the Amazon bookstore, users can easily browse, purchase, and download their desired titles with just a few taps. The tablet also offers an long battery life for hours of uninterrupted reading.
Not far behind, the iPhone 14 received 47 searches each month throughout the last quarter of 2023. The iPhone 14 features a 6.1-inch retina display, and a dual camera system and operates on the A15 Bionic chip, making it one of the most advanced phones on the market. Despite the iPhone 15 being released this year, and iPhone 14 being more than a year old, it remains popular based on Google searches.
Commenting on the findings, Nico Arnold, a spokesperson for GamingGadgets said, "This data offers a fascinating insight into which tech items people most look forward to receiving as Christmas gifts. The study considered searches from October to December, encompassing searches for sales during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and consequently revealing which gadgets Hungary is most interested in at this time of the year."
