Dwelling construction permits declined 29% y.o.y., and KSH reported that consistently fewer homes for individuals are built throughout the country. Indeed, the figure of 7,293 new structures represents just 20% of those erected in 2008. Only Győr, Kecskemét, Sopron and Szeged among Hungarian towns saw construction of over 200 homes last year, and the number of homes built in villages fell by a whopping 50% y.o.y. to 1270.
In 2013, the number of construction permits fell to 17.2% that of 2008 and was down 28.9% y.o.y. less than one-fifth of the figure of 2008 (17.2%).
Finally, it’s still a buyer’s market out there: KSH reported that some 3% more building permits were issued than occupied for 2013.
