The announcement came a few days after Hungarian media began speculating that the recently proposed internet tax would generate a revenue to cover the wage increases of law enforcement agencies. But today, government leaders announced that the internet tax would not be as large as originally planned.
As part of the wage increase, the full staff of the Hungarian armed forces will get an average 30% wage hike next July and an annual 5% top-up following that until January 2019, Hende said. Additionally, the system of allowances would be reformed and these are expected to include the introduction of a home allowance, and from 2016, special insurance for public servants.
Head of the Prime Minister’s Office János Lázár said earlier that the government’s planned state reform will include a career model for public servants, and that wages in the armed forces will be significantly increased starting July 1, 2015, while the career model is scheduled to be introduced one year later.
