In breast cancer screening, mammography using ’soft’ x-rays is the only scientifically proven procedure. For this examination, we use a high-tech direct digital mammography device suitable for tomosynthesis and stereotactic sampling.
During mammography, the breasts are compressed in two directions and then images are taken. Because breast compression can cause mild discomfort, screening should be performed within 15 days of the first day of menstruation. At this time, the breast tissue is softer and less sensitive. As part of our complex breast screening, mammography + a physical examination + an ultrasound examination is also performed. If necessary, 3-dimensional tomosynthesis, a thin- or thick-needle biopsy examination, and stereotactic sampling are also possible at Dr. Rose Private Hospital on the recommendation of a radiologist.
Mammography is proven to be the most effective tool for early detection of breast cancer and is recommended as a regular examination from the age of 35.
During self-examination, if you feel a painless or painful lump in the breast that you have not previously noticed, or if you notice fluid or discharge from your nipple, the nipple retracts, or you notice a skin lesion in the breast area, be sure to see your doctor for further investigation. The exact age limit recommended for the examination should be determined on the basis of an individual assessment, which in each case is the competence of the radiologist.
