Sándor Czomba said that so far 4,600 employers have received almost HUF 5 billion of subsidies through the program.

Some 81% of participating students are working for local councils and 5,000 of them are employed in the tourism and catering sector, he added.

Under the scheme, local councils are eligible for subsidies covering 100% of wage costs for students up to the minimum wage.

Businesses in the farm, tourism, and catering sectors are eligible for subsidies covering 75pc of payroll costs.

The program was first launched in 2013.
