In her letter she said that she did not “wish to attend the hearing to consider the results of an internal investigation by NAV”, MTI added. The hearing was initiated by various opposition lawmakers after six unnamed Hungarian officials were restricted access to the United States on charges of corruption and Vida admitted to being one of them.
According to the chairman of the committee Socialist Sándor Burány, Vida said in her letter that NAV had concluded “with complete certainty that everything is in the best possible order and she does not wish to avail of the opportunity” by attending the hearing.
Burány added that the governing majority had also sent a letter to the committee, advising Vida’s hearing be deleted from the committee’s agenda. Burány said that this motion was accepted.
According to the deputy chairman of the committee, Lajos Szűcs of Fidesz, the hearing had no relevance to the budget. He added that the matter is of a political nature whereas the committee chiefly deals with professional reports and bills.
