MÁV-START, the passenger unit of state-owned Hungarian railway company MÁV, opened an international ticket counter at Budapest’s Keleti station on Tuesday.
The ticket counter, which cost HUF 64m, will serve about half a million passengers a year, said MÁV-START CEO Zsolt Monszpart.
Each year about 2m passengers use MÁV-START’s international trains, travelling a combined 250m kilometers. In January-August, passenger numbers on the trains were up 120,000 from the same period a year earlier.
