Malév also announced that it will also stop operating its long-haul Boeing 767 aircraft.
Malév noted that the rising price of kerosene had increased the operating costs of the Budapest-New York round-trip flight by Ft 7million (€30,602) over the past year.
Malév said that the airline would focus primarily on its growing eastern European markets.
Malév ‘s last Toronto flight before the winter-timetable suspension will depart on September 21, while the airline’s final New York will leave on October 25.
On July 16, Malév signed a contract with Bombardier for the delivery of eight Q400 turboprop aircraft. Malév will start using four used Q400s for flights in its 2008-2009 winter timetable, while the airline will also receive four new Q400s beginning in 2012. Malév will replace its short-haul CRJ and Fokker 70 fleet with the Q400 aircraft. (MTI – Econews)
