First direct American Airlines New York-Budapest flight arrives in Hungarian capital

The first American Airlines direct scheduled New York-Budapest flight arrived in the Hungarian capital on Wednesday morning, Hungarian national carrier Malév, which has a code-share agreement for the flight, and Liszt Ferenc International Airport operator Budapest Airport said in a joint statement.

The arrival of the Boeing 767-300 was welcomed with a water cannon salute. The flight will return later in the morning and is scheduled to arrive in New York at 3:30 pm local time.

American Airlines and Malév are both members of the oneworld alliance of airlines.

Malév CEO Martin Gauss called the flight the result of a “cooperation of extraordinary significance”.
