The feature operates through the Lidl Plus app, where products appear in a virtual cart, and payment is completed at self‑checkout by scanning an app‑generated QR code.

The retailer has built in security measures, including random checks and mandatory age verification for alcohol and other restricted goods.

The pilot is currently running in Budapest’s Huszti út store, Budaörs’ Károly király út store, and Monor’s Gém utca store. Lidl will evaluate customer feedback and operational results before deciding on a nationwide rollout.
