According to a report by news wire MTI, the rebates that the government announced recently on dairy products, fruit and vegetables, would be rolled out in the second half of the year.
The measure is expected to save some 2.5 million pensioners each HUF 10,000-15,000 per month.
The Council of the Elderly proposed applying the VAT rebates to frozen foods, meat, pastries and bread, sugar, cooking oil and eggs.
Consultations on the range of products affected by the rebate as well as the timing of the measure are ongoing, the ministry said.
