The latest reading pointed to the sharpest growth since May 2022, as sales rebounded for food, beverages & tobacco (0.2% vs -2.6% in December), and trade rose faster for non-food products including fuel (8.4% vs 7%).
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales grew 1.8%, after showing no growth in December.
In a separate report, the Sofia-based agency said that industrial output in Bulgaria declined to 4.3% year-on-year in January, reversing from a 2.1% growth in the previous month. In monthly comparison terms, industrial output decline deepened, by 3.0% after edging down a revised 0.2% in December.
Data showed also that construction output dropped an annual 0.4% in January, after an upwardly revised 3.9% fall in the previous month. It was the second consecutive month of decline in construction activity but softer than in the previous month.
