The increase was mainly driven by manufacturing (21.1% vs 18.4% in April) and mining & quarrying (18.5% vs 7.1%).
Output also grew for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply although at a slower pace (14.1% vs 19.5%).
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production increased by 1.4%.
A separate report showed that construction output in Bulgaria rose by an annual 5.8% in May, following a downwardly revised 2.3% slump in March.
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, construction output rose 2%.
