It was the first decrease in industrial activity since November 2020.
Output fell for manufacturing by 0.1% and for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply by 2.8%.
Also, mining and quarrying activity slumped 7.5%.
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production fell 3.5% compared to a revised 2.5% decline in the previous month.
