Magyar Suzuki communications director Viktória Ruska told the portal that retroactive inspection of Swifts made during the five-year period revealed a potentially dangerous level of corrosion to their shock absorbers manufactured at the since-liquidated Hungarian company Berva 96. Ruska noted that no accidents involving personal injury have been reported as a result of the defective parts, which cost HUF 70,000.
Citing Magyar Suzuki CEO Hisashi Takeuchi, the business daily Napi Gazdaság reported on Wednesday that preliminary data indicates the unit generated revenue of HUF 428 billion in 2010, little changed from 2009. Napi Gazdaság said that Magyar Suzuki manufactured 170,000 vehicles last year, exporting 18,000 of these vehicles to Germany, 14,000 to England and 13,000 to each France and Italy. Magyar Suzuki expects to manufacture the same number of vehicles this year, the newspaper added.
Napi Gazdaság noted that Suzuki’s share of the Hungarian market dipped to 7th place last year from 1st place the previous 13 years. Takeuchi attributed the fall to a decline in the proportion of purchases among individuals as apposed to companies last year.
