Hungary-based Magyar Suzuki communications manager Tamas Tihanyi said the new Swift produced since 2005 was the most successful export product of the factory. Almost 23,400 of them were exported in the first quarter, followed by SX4, of which nearly 13,000 were sold abroad. The production of SX4 started only last year.
A report by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) published last Friday showed that Hungarian car sales more than doubled to Ft180 billion (around €729 million) in the first two months of 2007. Hungary’s car industry, employing nearly 100,000 workers, churned out 190,000 cars and 2.3 million motorcycles in 2006 yielding an aggregate sales revenues of Ft2.6 trillion, or €10.5 billion.
