Preparations for the start of production at German carmaker’s Daimler’s plant in the Hungarian city of Kecskemét is progressing “at full speed”, managing director of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Frank Klein said in a statement on Friday.
The installation of the technical equipment in the production halls finished in May and a test run of the technology is starting, Klein said.
The test run will end by the end of July and different degrees of production testing will start from September. Test cars will be made and the entire production system optimized, he added.
The first production car is to roll off the line at the €800 million plant in Q1 2012.
The plant will turn out next-generation compact models. Daimler will show the new B-Class at the Frankfurt Auto Show on September 15-25.
