The investment was supported by a HUF 1.9 bln government grant, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said at the ceremony.

Szijjártó said that over one-third of the company’s suppliers are Hungarian and added that Suzuki last year was a market leader in the new car segment with a 13-14% market share.

The minister noted that Japanese companies form the ninth biggest group of foreign investors in Hungary, with close to 200 Japanese companies employing around 30,000 people in the country.

“Over the past decade, Hungary’s government supported 73 major investments by Japanese companies. These projects are worth a combined HUF 670 bln and created more than 5,000 jobs,” Szijjártó said.
