Hungary’s industrial output rose an unadjusted 7.6% and was up a calendar year-adjusted 2.6% year-on-year in May, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said in a second reading on Thursday.

The figures were the same as those in the first reading published on July 7.

May industrial output growth picked up slightly from an unadjusted 7.1% and slowed from a calendar year-adjusted 9.7% in April.

Export sales rose 11.2% year-on-year in May, accelerating from 7.6% in April. Domestic sales fell 0.9% in May after declining 3.4% in April.

In a seasonally and workday-adjusted month-on-month comparison, industrial output declined 0.8%. Export sales fell 1.0% in May after declining 0.5% in the previous month. Domestic sales were down an adjusted 0.6% from a month earlier after rising 1.6% in April.

January-May output was up 10.3% from the same period a year earlier. Export sales were up 14.0% in the period and domestic sales fell 4.0%.

In a breakdown by market segment, manufacturing sector output was up 8.0% year-on-year in May.

All but three of 13 manufacturing branches expanded. Of the biggest branches, output of computer, electronics and optical products fell 7.6%. The segment, which accounts for more than one-sixth of manufacturing industry output, registered a decline for the second time since November 2009. Output of vehicle manufacturing, boosted by parts production, increased 15.8%. This segment accounts for 20% of manufacturing sector output. Output of the food, beverages and tobacco segment, which makes up 10% of the sector’s output, was up 0.4%. Output of the machine and equipment manufacturing segment climbed 63.9%. Output of the chemical products segment rose 11.7%. The pharmaceutical segment registered its best performance this year, with output growing 18.6%.

Exports of the computer, electronics and optical segment, which accounts for close to 25% of manufacturing industry exports, fell 5.6%. Exports of the vehicle manufacturing segment, which accounts for more than 25% of the sector’s exports, were up 16.3% year-on-year in April. The two branches account for half of industrial exports.

Hungary’s industrial output rose 10.5% in 2010 after dropping 11.8% in 2009. Export sales volume rose 16.4% in 2010 after a 18.8% decline in 2009. Domestic sales fell 2.9% in 2010 after a 12.5% drop in 2009.

Output per employee at businesses with a staff of at least five rose 4.8% in January-May from the same period a year earlier, including the effect of a 5.1% rise in headcount.

New orders in the manufacturing companies were up 4.3% in May from the same month a year earlier. New export orders rose 4.6%, while new domestic orders rose 2.3%.

Total stock of orders was up 18.8% from the same month a year earlier.
