Hankook plant in Hungary aims to boost direct deliveries to carmakers

Korean tyre maker Hankook’s Hungarian unit aims to raise the proportion of output that it delivers directly to European vehicle makers from 10% to 20-25% in the coming years, the unit’s communications manager told MTI on Thursday.

Direct deliveries from the plant in Rácalmás, south of the capital, are continuing to grow, said Katalin Roy.

The plant has delivered to Hyundai since October 2008 and to Volkswagen’s plants in Europe since April 2009. From Q3 of this year, it will deliver tyres for KIA’s Sportage model made at its plant in Slovakia. Hankook supplied the KIA plant earlier, too, but it is cutting the delivery time in the new order from 45 days to just 48 hours.

Hankook started production at its €550 million plant in Rácalmás in 2007. The plant employs 1,900 people to turn out 34,000 tyres a day. The 500 types of tyres made at the plant are put on cars, light commercial vehicles and SUVs.
