Tourist arrivals increased 4.4% and tourism nights rose 5.1% compared to a year earlier, partly driven by the Pentecost long weekend falling in June.
Seasonally adjusted data showed arrivals up 5.2% and tourism nights up 6.1% from June 2024. Commercial accommodation establishments, which hosted 69% of guests, recorded a 2.9% increase in arrivals, while private and other accommodations saw a 7.8% rise.
Domestic tourism grew modestly, with 1 million Hungarian guests spending 2.2 million nights, up 2.3% and 4.1% year-on-year. Hotels, which accounted for 65% of domestic stays, saw arrivals increase 2.7%. The largest regional growth was in Szeged, where domestic arrivals jumped 18%, while Eger registered a 1.5% decline.
International tourism posted stronger gains, with 889,000 foreign guests spending nearly 2.2 million nights. Arrivals rose 6.8%, while nights increased 6.1% from a year earlier. Hotels received 79% of foreign arrivals, up 1.4%. The steepest growth was seen in Tokaj and Nyíregyháza, up 17%, while Gyula saw a 6.8% drop.
Tourist accommodations generated gross sales revenue of HUF 107.6 billion in June, a 9.8% increase year-on-year. Spending with Széchenyi Recreation Cards reached HUF 3.9 billion, up 6.4%.
In the first half of 2025, tourist arrivals totaled 8.2 million, 7.8% more than a year earlier. Domestic arrivals rose 3.2% to 4 million, while international arrivals increased 13% to nearly 4.2 million.
