Fifteen foreign delegations laid wreaths on the martyrs’ graves, people from about 60 countries were attending celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian revolution and freedom fight. Delegations were safe, some of them are leaving the country this morning, do there may be some more road restrictions towards the airport during the day.
Emergency services treated about 128 injuries including injuries treated on the spot, the spokesman for the National Emergency Services said early on television today. Pál Győrfi said that most injuries were mild contusions, and damage caused by teargas and rubber bullets. Six or seven cases appeared to more serious, he said, but that had to be confirmed by inpatient examinations. No-one was in life-threatening condition, he said. Győrfi added that emergency services, including both ambulances and firefighters would continue working through the night, as they were constantly being called to attend to minor wounds. The number of injured mentioned above include only those who were taken to the hospitals by the ambulance, those walking in, or taken in by their own are not included yet.
Péter Szegedi, spokesman of the FKF Zrt (Municipal Public Services Co. Ltd.) said on Duna Television, that FKF started cleaning streets soon after rioters left around 2 a.m. and will finish with the main roads and reopen them by 8 a.m. Some routes of the public transport is not on their original tracks yet, the metro quits a few stops.
Péter Gergényi police chief of Budapest said in the morning magazine of MTV2 Napkelte, that at least 30-40 people were arrested during the riots.
Rioters back on Monday afternoon occupied an exhibited tank, which they managed to start and crashed everything in its way, reported TV2 last night, asking a man who said, he was sitting inside that tank, but was not driving it. He could not tell the reporter, how were they able to start the machine.
Rioters set fire in the office of the SzDSz (Alliance of Free Democrats) in the XII district, and also in the Szombathely office of MSzP (Hungarian Socialist Party) with Molotov cocktails. (Duna TV, MTV, TV2)
