After the recent announcement regarding the new Wizz Air flight to Moscow, which will take the number of scheduled destinations served by Debrecen to eight, the airport has reported new figures indicating that the facility is on a strong growth path.
In a press release sent to Budapest Business Journal, László Tamás, Debrecen Airportʼs aviation development director says: “The first eight months of Debrecen Airportʼs passenger traffic was dynamic, due to the increasing load factor of our scheduled services and due to the particularly vigorous summer charter traffic. We are pretty optimistic for the upcoming four months of the year, as forecast trends and demand are extremely encouraging.”
Forecasts are positive partly because the EU visa waiver scheme, which came into force on June 11 for Ukrainian citizens, has a favorable impact on tourism and on scheduled and charter flights from Transcarpathia to Western Europe and Israel, the director notes. “We are confident that we will be the key airport serving that region and will continue to increase the number of guest nights spent by foreign tourists arriving,” Tamás added.
