Last October’s electricity auction reinforced the forecasts: prices on liberalized markets are significantly higher than those provided on a regulated market. Government action is ambiguous as it has withdrawn from regulating the market when adopting the new energy law; but it still announced this year’s electricity prices as an authority, the association’s communiqué pointed out. Energy policy 2000 urges conducting all the missing research on the energetic, economic, social and other consequences of liberalization. Social discussion and consensus should precede the creation of a national energy strategy. In accordance with the EU recommendations, a system of social subsidies should be established to protect the poor. (Gazdasági Rádió)
