Regional water works were not added to the list of assets to be kept in government control, and are therefore available for privatization according to a recent regulation. Andrea Markó, state secretary at the Finance Ministry, could not give a reason for the above decision, however she emphasized that the final decision has not been made yet, discussions on the regulations of public property have been brought to political levels. The new proposal would eliminate the National Privatization and Asset Management Zrt and delegate authority over the remaining state owned corporations to the newly instituted National Asset Management Zrt. OÉT is criticizing the short-term on which the regulations are planned to take effect, entering in force in September 2007. OÉT also criticized that the proposal lacks provisions that would enable employees to acquire holdings in the privatized companies. (Magyar Hirlap)
