This year’s VITILOIRE consumer wine festival in Tours, France, will be organized on May 28-29. Visited by about 20,000 wine lovers each year, VITILOIRE will welcome Hungary’s Tokaj region as an honorary guest this year. Tokaj will be represented by the Füleky winery on behalf of Hungary’s Tokaj Renaissance Association for the ninth consecutive year.
Over a hundred wine growers from the Loire Valley will offer their finest wines, latest food and wine pairing tips and guided wine tours during the two-day event. The region’s top 10 restaurants will serve local food specialties.
Hungarian wines will be in the spotlight at the annual wine festival this year as the Central European country holds the EU’s rotating presidency between January and June. French-Hungarian relations are in the focus in the city of Tours throughout the entire year.
Foie gras served at the opening gala dinner will be complemented by Füleky’s 6 puttony aszú from the 2001 vintage. The vineyard will set up its own stall to introduce visitors to a carefully selected wine range, including a 2009 dry furmint, the Pallas 2006 late harvest furmint, the winery’s award-winning 6 puttony aszú from 2001 and another 6 puttony aszú from the latest 2006 aszú vintage. The wines will be presented by Füleky representative Hajnalka Szabó.
Tourism generates €800 million in income for central France’s Touraine province each year with nearly 40% of the local population making a living in the tourism industry. Visitors spend a 2.6 million nights each year in the region, which boasts some 40 medieval castles, an 800-kilometer wine route, 300 wineries open to visitors, a 150-kilometer bicycle trail and hiking trails that stretch 6,800 kilometer long.
