China's Fudan University could open its campus in Hungary in 2024, pro-government daily Magyar Nemzet said last week.

The paper noted that the government has earmarked HUF 821 million from the 2021 budget for investments related to the campus.

"The role of Fudan, one of the top universities in the world, in Hungary will accelerate the already begun internationalization of higher education in the country," the Ministry for Innovation and Technology told the paper.

The ministry said Fudan's campus in Hungary would "advance the construction of quality educational infrastructure" and could help transform the country into a regional knowledge center. Fudan's campus could also provide an incentive for Chinese businesses to bring R&D centers to Hungary, it added.
