At the edge of these grounds, the Arany János Guesthouse, with its intimate atmosphere, provides the perfect accommodation for visitors staying for several days, as well as for those seeking retreat and tranquility. This renovated heritage site is a unique, complex tourism development model project within the network of the NÖF National Heritage Protection Development Nonprofit Ltd. It includes a permanent exhibition, accommodation, restaurant services, and multifunctional sports fields.

NÖF Nonprofit Kft.’s goal is to integrate the renovated castles and fortresses into the country’s tourism network, continuously offering a fresh program selection at each heritage site for visitors who are receptive to quality culture. The newly rejuvenated Tisza Castle in Geszt is also rightfully attracting interest: the exhibition reveals many valuable and intriguing secrets of the past through faithfully furnished study rooms and personal belongings of Kálmán Tisza and István Tisza, which have witnessed many unforgettable moments and just as many adversities over the past century.

Beyond the charm of the original objects, old paintings, and photographs, the content of the exhibition is also conveyed through interactive technical devices, in addition to classic solutions. The interpretation of what is seen is further assisted by costume short films and audio plays. The heritage site has also been enriched with invaluable paintings, such as Miklós Barabás’s portraits of Lajos Tisza and Countess Júlia Teleki Tisza, as well as Artúr Ferraris’s painting “Historical Tarokk Party”. Additionally, Joseph Danhauser’s work, the Biedermeier writing desk of junior Kálmán Tisza, Alajos Strobl’s bust of Count Kálmán Tisza, and a cigar holder depicting a foxhunt engraved with the signature of Denise Almássy, niece of Count István Tisza, hold significant value.

The primary goal of the reconstruction was to restore the building complex to its last original state. The main building’s individual rooms have regained their period functions, such as István Tisza’s study, while the ladies’ salon has been transformed into an exhibition space and event venue, suitable for business meetings, team-building trainings, conferences, and civil wedding ceremonies. The spaces of the late Baroque-style building offer services that meet today’s expectations, such as a café and a museum education activity area.

Alongside the main building, the castle garden and park have also been renewed, featuring multifunctional sports fields among the ornamental plants. Additionally, the Tiszttartó House, the Arany János Memorial House, and the Tisza family crypt have all undergone complete reconstruction. A new addition is the Arany János Guesthouse, enabling visitors to spend several days at the former home of the Tisza family.

“The renewed Tisza Castle is a unique, complex tourism development model project within the NÖF NKft. network. Besides the permanent exhibition, the museum education activity area, and the café, we also welcome our guests with a 29-room accommodation, restaurant, community spaces, and sports fields. Our utilization concept, focusing on sustainability, centrally involves the broadest possible inclusion of local communities in the everyday life of the renovated building, employing regional labor, and establishing close cooperation with local small producers and service providers,” said Zsanett Oláh, managing director of NÖF Nonprofit Kft.

Thanks to the descendants of the Tisza family, visitors can admire original household items that were once in the castle. These include István Tisza’s ivory letter opener, Miklós Barabás’s portraits, and the marble table clock with a turul bird on top.
