As a reversal of a policy maintained since August, Germany has decided to apply to the Dublin Convention once again for Syrians, the interior ministry told DPA news agency, online daily euobserver.com reported late yesterday. According to the online daily, Syrian refugees will be sent back to the first country in which they arrived into the EU.
According to Hungarian news agency MTI, Berlin is applying the Dublin Regulation to all EU members, except Greece.
Szijjártó said that if somebody leaves Syria for Europe, then it is “physically impossible” for them to enter the European Union in Hungary, therefore “it is not reasonable that any Syrians be sent back to Hungary”, MTI reported.
He reiterated that pressure grew in the European Union when German politicians made “irresponsible announcements” which “certain immigrants understood as an invitation”, MTI quoted Szijjártó as saying.
