During a speech campaigning for his wife in New Jersey, Clinton said Hungary, and Poland, have “Putin-like leadership”. Clinton added that without the help of the United States during the Cold War, these two countries would not be free.
In reaction to this, Szijjártó said today in a statement sent to Hungarian news agency MTI that Hungaryʼs freedom, “has been fought for by Hungarian people; tens of thousands of Hungarian gave their lives for the freedom of the country”.
Szijjártó added that “such disdain for the freedom fight of the Hungarian nation is unacceptable”, according to the statement sent to MTI. Szijjártó said that Bill Clinton “might obviously know” that Hungarian people “decided on the future of Hungary through democratic parliamentary elections”.
“Bill Clinton may not favor the decision of the Hungarian people, but this is not enough of a reason to insult them as he has,” Szijjártó added, according to the statement.
