The representative survey of 1,000 adults showed that people would rather see the money spent on eliminating poverty instead.
Only 8% of respondents actually attend football matches regularly, and 6% plan to do so in future, the survey reveals. A quarter of the respondents watch Hungarian games on TV and one-third of them only want to know the results.
Two-thirds of Fidesz voters said they would spend less on supporting football than the government currently does. While almost all respondents have heard about the Hungarian national team qualifying for the 2016 European Championships, a majority of them think this can be attributed to the playersʼ performance and luck rather than to increased government support. Less than one percent said the reason for the success was more stadiums built in the country, the survey said.
